Interesting facts about me

I started repairing and restoring rods in the early 1980's. At that time I was making violins, and figured, if I can make a musical instrument, then surely I can repair and restore fly rods, so I took off.

In April of 1988, I actually made my first rod from a culm of bamboo. It was a great feeling, and while that rod is really substandard compared to rods I made even a year later, it's special and it stays in my shop.

Here I am, nearly 22 years and 800 rods later and loving every minute of it. Still, I have other things I love to do...

Fly Fishing, of course and Pool (pocket billiards). I don't have the eyes I used to have, but still play in a few big time tournaments, just for fun.

Of course, I love to travel and fish different places. I think I've fished MOST of the states in the US and have fished the South Island of New Zealand. I guess my favorite place to fish is right here in North Central Arkansas on the White River System. Like I said, I've fished about everywhere but the trout fishing here is hard to beat.

    Alan,

Harry makes a fine Payne taper. I don't do any tapers other than my own, so I figured I'd recommend Harry. I like his rods a LOT and for a preacher, he's an OK guy! :)
